Huawei has officially launched the Huawei Mate 90 series in China, and the series leads with its camera rather than its chip. The main sensor on both the standard model and the Huawei Mate 90 Pro is a 50 MP RYYB unit with optical stabilization and a variable aperture that opens as wide as f over 1.4 and closes down to f over 4.0 depending on the shot, a feature Huawei has used on past Mate phones but continues to refine here. Both phones pair that with a 40 MP ultrawide and a 50 MP telephoto on the back.

What separates the Pro from the standard model
The standard Mate 90 runs on Huawei's Kirin 9030 chip, which the company says delivers about 27 percent higher overall performance than the previous generation, paired with HarmonyOS 7. Step up to the Mate 90 Pro and you get the more powerful Kirin 9035 instead, which Huawei says can push performance about 20 percent higher still when combined with HarmonyOS 7 and cloud computing support, along with a dual layer OLED display in place of the standard model's single layer panel.
Both phones share a 6.75 inch OLED screen with an adaptive refresh rate that scales from 1Hz up to 120Hz depending on what is on screen, and both carry a 6,600 mAh battery. Charging differs by model: the standard Mate 90 supports 66 W wired and 50 W wireless charging, while the Mate 90 Pro moves up to 100 W wired charging while keeping the same 50 W wireless speed.
Build, storage and what comes next
Both models ship with 12 GB of RAM and a choice of 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB of storage, with no memory card slot on either one. Durability is rated at IP68 for dust and water resistance down to six meters, plus the tougher IP69 standard for resistance to high pressure and high temperature water jets. The standard Mate 90 measures 161.9 by 75.7 by 7.95 millimeters and weighs around 217 grams.
Huawei had also been expected to launch a Mate 90 Pro Max and an RS Ultimate Design variant alongside these two, and while pre launch coverage listed both as part of the series, their final specifications were still being reported inconsistently right up to launch, so treat anything about those two specific models as unconfirmed until Huawei publishes official listings for them. For now, the standard Mate 90 and the Mate 90 Pro are the two confirmed members of the lineup on sale in China, with no word yet on whether either will reach markets outside China.
