Samsung has started rolling out its October 2026 security update to the Galaxy S26 line, and this one is bigger than the usual monthly patch. Reports put the fix count at around 62, made up of 45 issues coming from Google's own Android components plus 17 more specific to Samsung's own software. Samsung's own release notes describe an even wider package once Samsung Semiconductor's fixes are counted in, covering close to 83 items in total depending on how you count them.
Nine of the Android fixes are rated critical. The most serious ones sit in the System component and, according to Google's own description, could let a local attacker gain elevated access without needing any action from the phone's owner. Samsung has also patched its own apps and services, including memory safety issues in audio processing, text to speech tools, and the library used to decode HEIF images, though the company has deliberately held back some technical detail on those to avoid giving attackers a head start.
Who is getting it, and when
The update is landing for the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, the Galaxy S26 and the Galaxy S26 Plus, and it is the first real patch since One UI 9, built on Android 17, went stable on these phones. As usual for Samsung, the rollout is staged by country and carrier rather than arriving everywhere at once. Canada and the United States appear to be among the first in line, with the update sitting at roughly 530 MB on those builds, and parts of Europe reportedly already received their own build a little earlier. If it has not reached your phone yet, checking Settings and then Software update is still the quickest way to see where your device stands.
A small number of the fixes in this month's notes were technically already shipped in earlier updates and are only being documented again now, and one Google entry in the bulletin does not apply to Galaxy hardware at all. Neither of those details should change how quickly you install the update once it reaches your phone.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy S27 rumor mill is picking up
While the current Galaxy S26 lineup gets patched, attention is already turning to what comes next. According to leaks circulating online, Samsung may be planning a fourth tier in the Galaxy S27 family, sitting between the Plus and the Ultra and tentatively referred to as a Pro model. Case and screen protector listings that have surfaced online are said to confirm this four model lineup, while also suggesting that the standard Galaxy S27 and the Plus will keep a very similar design to the S26 generation, with any real visual change saved for the Ultra and the new Pro tier.
Those figures come from a leaked pricing table being shared online and are described even by the people sharing them as current targets rather than a locked in price sheet, so they are worth treating as a rough guide rather than a guarantee. Separately, production of Samsung's own Exynos 2700 chip is reported to have begun, which lines up with earlier rumors that Samsung could split the Galaxy S27 Ultra between Exynos and Snapdragon versions depending on region, the way it has with some past generations. None of this is confirmed by Samsung, and a launch is not expected until around February 2027 at the earliest, so plenty of these details can still change before then.
