Chip and performance

The M6 has a 12 core CPU, two more cores than before, and Apple says it includes what it calls the world's fastest CPU core. The 12 core GPU also adds two cores, and each core has a Neural Accelerator. Apple's comparisons use a 14 inch MacBook Pro with M5 configured with a 10 core CPU, a 10 core GPU, 32GB of memory and a 4TB SSD as the baseline.

Apple's headline claims are up to 30 percent faster graphics and up to 25 percent faster on device AI workloads than the M5 model. It also claims up to 1.9x faster Neural Engine performance. For M1 upgraders, its headline figures are up to 11x faster graphics and up to 13x faster AI performance.

Display, connectivity and battery

The Liquid Retina XDR display reaches up to 1600 nits of peak HDR brightness with a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. The optional nano texture finish reduces reflections and glare, but the announcement does not give its price.

Apple lists WiFi 7, Bluetooth 6 and support for up to two external displays. Battery life is up to 24 hours, the same plugged in or on battery. Apple says owners upgrading from Intel models gain up to 14 more hours, and M1 owners gain up to four more hours. Charging reaches 50 percent in 30 minutes with a compatible higher wattage USB C adapter, such as the 96W Power Adapter.

Software and Apple Intelligence

The laptop ships with macOS 27 Golden Gate, which brings Siri AI, Apple Intelligence features across apps and Liquid Glass updates. A settings slider adjusts the transparency. Apple says Siri AI is in beta in macOS 27.2. It is not available to users under 13, and server based features have daily limits. Apple also says expanded access will cost money in the future.

Design and environment

The laptop comes in space black and silver. Apple says the enclosure is 100 percent recycled aluminum and the battery uses 100 percent recycled cobalt. Multiple capacitors use 100 percent recycled tantalum. Apple says 45 percent of the laptop's content is recycled overall, and that 60 percent of electricity across its supply chain is renewable. Intel and M1 upgraders get 16GB of starting memory, an extra Thunderbolt port and the space black finish with an anodized coating that Apple says shows fewer fingerprints.

What the company says

Shelly Goldberg, Apple's vice president of Hardware Engineering, calls the 14 inch MacBook Pro "the pro laptop of choice for a wide range of users."

Preorders and availability

Preorders open on October 28, and arrivals begin on November 6. Apple also offers AppleCare+, AppleCare One in available markets, Personal Setup with a Specialist and Apple Trade In.
