Apple has unveiled a MacBook Pro with a tandem OLED display and Touch. The display is named PROLED XDR, and Apple says this is the first time Touch has come to a Mac. The 14 inch model starts at $2,899 and the 16 inch model at $3,399 in the United States. Preorders opened on October 28, 2026, in 30 countries and regions, and deliveries and in store availability begin on Friday, November 6.

Touch comes to the Mac

The touch sensor is built into the display panel rather than layered on top, which Apple says reduces latency. Touch works alongside the keyboard and trackpad. Apple lists gestures for scrolling, pinch to zoom, drag and drop between windows, double tapping to fill the screen and flicking a window into place. Apple also says the hinge is redesigned for stability while you use Touch.

The panel is a tandem OLED with two layers of self illuminating pixels. Apple rates it at up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness for both HDR and SDR content, with a contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1 and a ProMotion refresh rate from 10Hz to 120Hz. The diagonal sizes are 14.2 inches and 16.3 inches. Apple's release does not give a sustained brightness figure. The screen is the main feature of the laptop, and we cover it in a separate piece on the blog.

Chip, weight and battery

The models use the M5 Pro or M5 Max chip, with up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage. Apple says the 14 inch model weighs 3 pounds, half a pound less than before, and the 16 inch model weighs 4 pounds, which is 0.7 pounds less. The 16 inch is nearly a millimeter thinner than before, and the 14 inch is half a millimeter thinner. Apple says battery life reaches up to 24 hours, based on its own testing in September 2026, and that the laptop charges to 50 percent in 30 minutes.

Dynamic Island comes to the Mac

The Dynamic Island now comes to the Mac, positioned around the webcam. Apple says it is the home for Spotlight, Live Activities and Siri AI. Users can accept an AirDrop request or pause a song with a tap from there.

  • Three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe and a headphone jack.
  • Up to three external displays with the M5 Pro and up to four with the M5 Max, in addition to the built in display.
  • WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 6 through Apple's N1 wireless chip, plus Touch ID.
  • A 12MP Center Stage camera and studio quality mics.
  • Six speakers with a new woofer design that gives 50 percent deeper bass, plus Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos.

Software

The laptop ships with macOS 27 Golden Gate. Apple says Touch is built into macOS 27, existing apps work by translating touch into mouse clicks, and developers get new gesture APIs for more specialized controls. Users can ask Siri about what is on their display with Visual Intelligence, using a keyboard shortcut. Siri AI is available in beta in macOS 27.2 and needs an Apple Intelligence enabled device set to a supported language.

Environment

Apple says the laptop is made with 55 percent recycled content overall. It has a 100 percent recycled aluminum enclosure, 100 percent recycled cobalt in the battery and 100 percent recycled tantalum in multiple capacitors, which Apple calls a first for the company. Apple says 45 percent of electricity across its supply chain is renewable, and its paper packaging is 100 percent fiber based.

Pricing and availability

In the United States, the 14 inch M5 Pro starts at $2,899, or $2,749 with education savings. The 16 inch M5 Pro starts at $3,399, or $3,199 with education savings. The 14 inch M5 Max starts at $4,499, or $4,199 with education savings, and the 16 inch M5 Max starts at $4,799, or $4,499 with education savings. Our price guide covers leases and accessories.
