Update, October 27: Delivery estimates for new online orders have not settled. Within days of preorders opening, the estimates moved from mid November to late January 2027, and some individual orders have since moved earlier, to November 16 to 23 or November 20 to 30. Pickup returned in the United States and Canada on October 24 for about five minutes, and most stores had no slots. Check the estimate on your own order.
iPhone Duo Launch Day: Queues Form, and Walk In Stock Runs Out Fast
Update, October 25: Pickup reservations briefly reopened in the United States and Canada early on Saturday, October 24, and reports say pickup has resumed in several other countries. Slots remain scarce, and Apple has not announced a restock date.
Apple's first foldable went on sale on Friday, October 23, and the first day looked much like the warnings that came before it. Reports from several cities describe queues outside Apple Stores, and some shops had sold out of walk in stock by mid morning. The iPhone Duo is priced from $1,999, and supply was never going to meet demand on day one.
What happened on launch day
Apple had told its stores that walk in supply would be small and would vary by country, so the queues and early sellouts are not a surprise. Online preorders sold out within minutes earlier in the week, and delivery estimates for new orders now point to late January 2027.
Some reports describe shoppers queuing from earlier in the week, and resellers have listed units well above the $1,999 starting price. We cannot check individual listings, but the spread between the list price and resale asking prices is a clear sign of how tight supply is.
| Item | What is reported |
|---|---|
| Walk in sales | Queues at some stores, and sellouts at some locations by mid morning |
| Online preorders | Sold out, with new orders estimated for late January 2027 |
| Starting price | $1,999 for 256 GB (Apple) |
| Resale listings | Well above the list price, with some reported near $10,000 |
| Pickup | Apple said to check its store on October 24, and the outcome was not yet reported |
What to do if you still want one
If you need a Duo quickly, the best route is to check Apple's online store for pickup availability in your area, and to call your nearest store before you visit. Paying a reseller far above $1,999 makes sense only if you need the phone immediately and accept the cost. If you can wait, the new delivery estimates give a clearer picture of when your order will arrive.
We will update this piece once Apple confirms pickup availability or changes its delivery dates.
