review
If you hate giant phones, the choice is smaller than ever. Two flagships are still built for people who want power without a paving slab in their pocket: the iPhone 18 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S26. Both have a 6.3 inch screen. And yet one of them is 44 g lighter and 1.6 mm slimmer, and somehow still carries the bigger battery.
We compared them line by line in the SpexHive database. Keep reading, because the phone that looks like the smaller compromise is not the one you would expect.
Choose the iPhone 18 Pro if you want the sharper screen, the more capable cameras, the faster charging and the Apple ecosystem. Choose the Samsung Galaxy S26 if you want the lightest and slimmest body, a slightly bigger battery and a newer Android phone with a full set of Samsung features.
Key specifications from the SpexHive database. The Galaxy S26 figures are for the Canadian model, other regions can differ.
Round 1: Screen and feel
Both phones share a 6.3 inch, 120 Hz screen, but they do not look the same up close. The iPhone has 1206 x 2622 pixels (about 460 ppi), against 1080 x 2340 (about 411 ppi) on the Galaxy. Apple’s LTPO panel peaks at 3,000 nits and adds an anti reflective coating, while Samsung’s Dynamic AMOLED does not list a brightness figure.
The body is where the Galaxy fights back, and it fights hard. At 167 g and 7.2 mm it is dramatically more pocketable than the iPhone at 211 g and 8.8 mm. That is 44 g lighter, which is 21% less weight, and 1.6 mm slimmer. It is the kind of difference you feel in a trouser pocket within a minute.
Winner: iPhone for the screen, Galaxy for comfort.
Round 2: Performance
The iPhone 18 Pro uses Apple’s A20 Pro on a 2 nm process, with six cores up to 4.93 GHz. In our testing it scored 3,402,829 in AnTuTu, 12,641 in Geekbench 6 and 7,942 in 3DMark Wild Life Extreme. The Samsung Galaxy S26 uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy on 3 nm, with eight cores up to 4.74 GHz. We do not have lab results for it yet.
Both come with 12 GB of RAM. Apple offers more storage choices, up to 2 TB, while the Galaxy tops out at 512 GB in our database.
Winner: iPhone on paper, thanks to the newer chip process and the storage options.
Round 3: Cameras
This is a clear win on specifications for Apple. The iPhone 18 Pro carries three 48 MP cameras: a main camera with a variable aperture from f/1.5 to f/4.0, a periscope telephoto at 100 mm with 4x optical zoom, and an ultra wide at 13 mm. Video includes 4K at 120 fps, ProRes RAW and Apple Log 2. The selfie camera is 18 MP.
The Galaxy S26 offers a 50.3 MP main camera at f/1.8 with 3x optical zoom, optical stabilisation and 8K video. The selfie camera is 12 MP. It is a capable setup, but a smaller one.
Plot twist #1: the lighter phone has the bigger battery
Here is the surprise. The Galaxy S26 holds 4,300 mAh, against 4,056 mAh in the iPhone 18 Pro. That is about 6% more capacity in a phone that weighs 21% less. It points to how efficiently Samsung has packed the body.
Real world endurance is a different matter. Our testing gave the iPhone 18 Pro an active use score of 16 hours 44 minutes and a 52 hour EU endurance rating. We do not have matching figures for the Galaxy S26, so the bigger battery is a promise rather than a proven win.
Plot twist #2: charging favours Apple
Apple lists 50% in 15 minutes over a wire with USB Power Delivery 3.2, and 25 W wireless through MagSafe and Qi2. Samsung is limited to 25 W wired and 15 W wireless. If you top up often during the day, Apple’s speed more than makes up for its smaller battery.
Durability is also in Apple’s favour. The iPhone 18 Pro is rated IP68 and uses Ceramic Shield 2. The Galaxy S26 uses Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and our database does not list a water protection rating for this model.
